Office 365 – External / Outside Sharing Directions

If you wish to share documents outside of our organization you may, but in order for those individuals to access the documents they will need to sign into Office 365 with a Microsoft account.  The directions and screen shots below will enable external users to login via a Microsoft Account, or create a Microsoft Account to access the shared document(s) or folders.

You may share this information with colleagues outside of our organization to enable collaboration utilizing the Hatboro-Horsham Office 365 environment.  These directions start after the user has received a sharing information from a user within our organization.

1). An invitation will be sent from Office 365 to the invited participant for document sharing. When they click on the title it will take them to sharepoint (OneDrive) login site.

2). If you the user has a Microsoft account, they may login and access the shared items directly. If they do not have a Microsoft account, there is a link at the bottom of this screen to “Sign Up Now”

3). If the user needs to create a Microsoft account, they should click Microsoft account. This will allow the user to create a Microsoft account and allow the user to access the shared documents or resources. If the user has an Organizational account they should select that link.

4).The user will need to fill out the form to create their Microsoft account. This form collects some basic information, and allows the user to enter their email address and create a password. After filling out the pertinent information the user will submit the form to create their account.

5).Office 365 will send the user a verification e-mail to ensure that the email account is a valid account owned by the user. The user will need to check their email and retrieve the link in that email to verify their information.

6). Click the blue box “Verify username@domain.***” This will take the user to the screen below.

7). Click “OK” and your account will be verified.  If after clicking the “OK” you receive an error message it is because Microsoft is provisioning your account. Go back to the original email and click the shared resource name, and it should re-direct you to the appropriate shared resource.

Happy Sharing and Collaboration!!!
